Falling and Laughing September Gigs

Hurrah, Falling and Laughing have got some gigs to announce! We’ve not really played any over the summer, because, uh … *tries to think of a good excuse as to why we haven’t played over the summer* … like the Bar-tailed Godwit, and the Woodland Kingfisher, we’re migratory in the summer. Honestly, it’s a thing that happens. Loads of bands do it. Famously JJ72.

Anyway, first up is Falling and Laughing presents a “Free gig!” on 16th September at The Victoria in Birmingham where we’re joined by Greg Bird and David Leach.

Then we’re back at The Victoria for House V.S. Home presents: David Tattersall & Howard Hughes on 20th September. Really looking forward to this one and it will be definitely worth seeing David Tattersall from The Wave Pictures while he’s in town and I’m well excited about seeing August Actually play!

Yes, it’s true. Falling and Laughing are in London this Friday (18th March). We’re playing on the bottom of a line up with two honestly, absolutely stunning bands - the stunning Pocketbooks and the stunning Felt Tips.

Falling and Laughing and the Party Planning Committee

If Enid Blyton wrote books about two-piece pop bands going on inconsequential escapades involving mysteries and that, then I assume that ‘Falling and Laughing and the Party Planning Committee’ would be the first title on her list. We’d probably have to thwart the evil forces of last minute planning by bringing a drum kit so that a gig could go ahead or something.

Anyway, the Party Planning Committee (facebook/twitter) is a new Birmingham night and the first gig is looking like a good one! Actually it’s looking like a pretty awesome one that we’ve snook onto the bottom of the line up of. It goes like this:

All round lovely chap and filmmonger Paul Busst has recorded a few Falling and Laughing songs from the gig on Friday and put them up on his video channel. There’ll also hopefully be some videos of his fantastic set to go online soon too in the same place!

We genuinely had such a great time on Friday. Both LookiMakeMusic and Shana Tova (who filled in for Kidnapper Bell at short notice when they sadly couldn’t make it) put in great sets and LookiMakeMusic did some awesome DJing till late. Wow. I hope everyone else who came enjoyed it as much!

Hurrah for Autumn! It’s when bands traditionally come out of summer hibernation, as the careful planning for precisely one member to be permanently on holiday or at a festival over the summer comes to an end and everyone remembers that bands are supposed to do gigs.

Bunnyhood EP is out now!

Falling and Laughing have finally released our first physical EP through Oddbox Records, it’s called Bunnyhood! You can listen to the tracks over on our bandcamp

They were very kindly recorded for us in Stoke, by Pete Horowitz.

I’m so pleased with the way the packaging has turned out! The image was drawn by Kooky Koala and was screen printed onto some of Stumptown Printers chipboard packaging by Get a Grip.

We’ve written and printed a zine which is in the box too with pieces about some of the things mentioned in the songs, and an interview with Pete about home recording.

It’s available for just £4 (plus P&P) from Oddbox Records, or if you’ve never bought anything from Oddbox before then you can also buy it as part of an awesome treasure trove of CDs which will also get you the new albums by Ace Bushy Striptease (it’s got a song on it called Bon Nuit, J’ai Changé Mon Esprit which is one of the best things ever!) and One Happy Island (similarly fantastic) along with the new Humms album. Win!

Lime Chalks mini tour

Lime Chalks are using their eight legs and going on something that vaguely resembles a tour! And not in the sense of every other ‘tour’ that I’ve ever been on which usually consists of two dates played within the same week in the same city, or two dates within the same month in different cities. Nope, this is a full on proper tour with three dates which are in the same week and in different places. Take that Muse.

NET005 – Falling and Laughing – Lights Out Birmingham

Oddbox Records have put out two Falling and Laughing songs as a download single as a bit of a pre-Bunnyhood teaser.

The songs can be downloaded from the Oddnet site. There’s loads of other great download singles there too!

Lights Out Birmingham was inspired by a New Scientist editorial about how they switch all the lights off in Reykjavik so that you could look at the stars in the night sky. Lights Out Birmingham was also the set opener and the ‘hit’ from when we were a three piece and had one of those bassists, like what the bumper book on starting a band says that you need. As it was Stu’s melodic basslines always contributed immensely to the two songs, and pulled them in scary new directions.

The b-side is again, Birmingham centric, all namedroppy by mentioning Snobs and The Jug and um, again all Nordic in that it’s about Swedish pop music. Isn’t Swedish pop brilliant!

Both the songs were recorded by Dom James and the cover was by Carla of Kooky Koala fame.
